DREAMS, DESPACITO

DREAMS, DESPACITO was my final project for my Business Communications class. Our task was to present a video about work.

Naturally, I made a music video. I had actually ordered a decent quality camera with which to take the videos, but it didn't arrive on time. So these videos were taken with cell phones and my laptop. This is my first time editing a video, and while the result is very amateurish, I am still proud to have done it at all, and plan on increasing in skill.

This song is a follow up to my song Dreams of 2 years ago, where, as my husband Yoel likes to say, I sat around making sad faces at the camera. But I *was* sad.

Watch the video to find out if I still am!

Thanks to:

Chemmie Sokolic, for the music in the beginning and the end. He actually recorded 4 versions of the entire song for me.
Karaoke Version, which provided the main music.
Christine and Mary, for filming at work.
Professor Satangelo, for encouraging creativity during this semester long
#MBAPoetry business.
And the makers of Despacito, which was the one song that could get me happy during that unhappy time.

LYRICS

Youth, since as a child I wanted to see the world
Conquer everything that I could see
Then, I thought the world was a map that would be unfurled
Sure that it would open up to me

Dreams, I dreamt I would always act upon my will
All the doors would open and I’d run through still
All the goals I yearned for they would fly to meet me- but then
No, turns out things don’t always go as you had planned
Bills and complications make their own demands
Now instead of roses I have barred doors greet me

Despacito, everything in life will take you despacito
Take it all in stride, it will come despacito
Keep the dream inside, but know it’s despacito
Despacito, keep on working hard, reward is despacito
Don’t expect gold stars, a grown-up doesn’t need to
Make your vision far, and stretch it despacito

Wish upon a star, but learn to love each step you’re taking
It’s another chain you’re breaking, prison doors you’re slowly shaking
Blazing in the flames but soon you’re floating through the ashes
Suffering leads to compassion; smoldering emboldens passion

I don’t forget the misery
When fate was yet a mystery
And hope it felt like history
Crying for my liberty
Don’t despair, just take the pain and and smash it, make it goad you
Listen here, the rain it will come crashing, make it hold you

Don’t you know, adversity’s the mother of invention
Do you really think you’d like a life of no dissension
Living like a child if you live without contention
Agony it swells but gives your life dimension

This is how it takes you, pain it makes or breaks you
Grasp it as it shakes you, don’t let it deflate you
All the broken glass, you melt it down and make a weapon
Clouds come in your life but they can take you up to heaven

Just don’t let the dream fly, hold it to your heart tight
Never let it slip by, frozen field and you’ll die
It’s the thing that shapes you, molds and complicates you
You anticipate the thing that birthed and made you

Despacito, everything in life will take you despacito
Take it all in stride, it will come despacito
Keep the dream inside, but know it’s despacito
Despacito, keep on working hard, reward is despacito
Don’t expect gold stars, a grown-up doesn’t need to
Make your vision far, and stretch it despacito

Wish upon a star, but learn to love each step you’re taking
It’s another chain you’re breaking, prison doors you’re slowly shaking
Blazing in the flames but soon you’re floating through the ashes
Suffering leads to compassion; smoldering emboldens passion

Despacito, everything in life will take you despacito
Take it all in stride, it will come despacito
Keep the dream inside, but know it’s despacito

This is how it takes you, pain it makes or breaks you
Grasp it as it shakes you, don’t let it deflate you
It’s another chain you’re breaking, prison doors you’re slowly shaking
Just don’t let the dream fly, hold it to your heart tight
Never let it slip by, frozen field and you’ll die
Suffering leads to compassion; smoldering emboldens passion
