You beat in vain against the glass
Your futile, fragile wings
What do you know of light within
But that it makes you sing?

You're in a world so vast and dark
Too much for you to bear
And so you flutter for a spark
So distant and so near

I'm trapped within;  you're trapped without
You'll sooner shrink and die
Yet but for brains and bitter pains
How differ you and I?
